File Management System | Online Drive | File Uploading, Downloading and Sharing

ABSTRACT

The aim of this project is to provide a platform where users could able to store their files and share them with their friends, which would be easy for a moderate user to understand its structure. For this purpose, strong efforts were made in order for the code to be as simple as possible.

The developers probably will notice that the code structure is quite simple with functions that complete similar operations. For example, there is one function for the copy link so that the user can share the link only to his friend, not the whole file. It is also quite important that, unlike similar FMS, this one performs very few operations, so that it could work fast.

This could be proved quite useful because it takes a very few seconds to do the work, avoiding the difficulty to understand the code philosophy. In this way, even a no-so-expert user can upload and download as well as share the links with each other. MY SQL databases are used in this project so that it will provide a better user experience by not using too many resources.

The GUI of the project is very simple and any user can easily use it. Every element is placed properly and the background color of the page is also not too bright, suited best for the users.

INTRODUCTION

File Management System (FMS) is an efficient, time-saving, and easy way to store, manage and share files with each other. It is now an easy task and managing it is much easier. FMS, a suite of programs that provides a way to upload your important files and documents to the server and access them anytime and anywhere. Most FMSs’ share the same basic logic.

To use one, start by registering yourself on the website and sign in through your email and password, telling your FMS to start archiving files to the server. Thereafter, when you want one of these files, you have to go on the homepage and click on the download button present on the right side of the file name.

The project is made using PHP and MY SQL database and JQuery is used to make requests through the project. The Project deals with files and store them in the storage and saves the names of the files to the database so that it would not cause any load on the database and work smoothly while requesting uploading and downloading of files.

The project uses functions to create a temporary name of the files while storing so that they would not clash with the other files sharing the same name. The GUI has been made so easy that any new user will also be able to use it.

Cookies are also used to keep the user logged in till the user logout’s by himself for 28 days. The user can also store his login credentials on the page so that it will make the logging and logging out more seamless.
